Meaning & History

Means "very cunning", derived from Greek ἄγαν (agan) meaning "very much" and μήδεα (medea) meaning "plans, counsel, cunning". This was the name of two women in Greek mythology. One was, according to Homer, a Greek physician acquainted with the healing powers of all the plants that grow upon the earth, and the other was a princess of Lesbos as the daughter of King Macar.
